Romp have premiered a new song called "Avoiding Boys" over on Stereogum, which you can stream in the replies as well. The band's new album, Departure From Venus, drops on March 4th via Bad Timing Records, so go snag a copy.
Typically, under terms that the record labels worked out with the streaming services (and somehow persuaded the federal rate courts to sign off on), when a song is streamed, sixty per cent of the income goes to the owners of the sound recording, thirty per cent goes to the service itself, and ten per cent goes to songwriters and publishers. When a song is streamed on an Internet radio site—Pandora is by far the largest—the holders of publishing copyrights receive a thousandth of a cent per stream.
Beyonce just dropped a new single, "Formation," that you can stream in the replies and get a free download of from Tidal. She will be appearing alongside Coldplay at the Super Bowl's halftime show tomorrow.
The Red Western are gearing up to release their double-EP, Sirens and Arrows, on February 5th and you can now stream both in the replies. Described as "five cuts of big, bright, full-of-life indie rock with tinges of pop (delightfully reminiscent of Camera Obscura), Americana and even a little bit of alt-emo in the vein of Run For Cover Records acts like Petal." I definitely recommend giving them a whirl and heading to iTunes and Bandcamp to support a great independent band.
Stepdad have released a new song called "Marquis Marq." It's from their upcoming 4-song EP Masterbeast Theatre, which will be released on March 18 via Quite Scientific Records. Check it out over at Nerdist.
Apparently we haven't posted about this yet, but Chairlift have a new album Moth out this month, and they've shared four songs from it already and they're all excellent. Check out "Moth to the Flame," "Romeo," "Ch-Ching," and "Crying in Public" and look for Moth on the 22nd.
Into It. Over It. will release its new album, Standards, on March 11th via Triple Crown Records. You can check out a new song titled "No EQ" and a lengthy feature piece on the band and album via Noisey. Pre-orders this Friday.
