MTV sat down to talk with Jake Karlen, also known as the kid on the cover of Fall Out Boy's American Beauty/American Psycho.
I didn’t know the band at first, and then the photographer told me [the shoot was for] Fall Out Boy. I knew their name but not their music so well. After working with Pete [Wentz] and seeing how he works with the cover and all the details he wants from it I know the details are important to him, so I went and listened to their music, and I love it.
Hit the replies to watch some videos from Shazam with Fall Out Boy talking about their new album, some of the meanings behind the songs, and more. I didn't know that "Novocaine" was cut from Save Rock and Roll.
You can watch Fall Out Boy's awesome performance of "Centuries" from last night's The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallonhere. You can also find a web exclusive video in the replies with the band discussing how they wrote the hit. The guys' new album, American Beauty/American Psycho is out now.
Yesterday Fall Out Boyannounced their tour with Wiz Khalifa and the social internet seemed to collectively lose their shit. Hitting up Facebook or Instagram led to a barrage of comments about why Fall Out Boy would want to work with rappers. I even saw a great comment on Instagram about how Fall Out Boy forgot all about punk music like Panic! at the Disco. Hilarity aside, this also ignores that hip-hop has been putting out a lot of music that best embodies the punk ethos over the past few years. XXL Magazine put together a list back in 2013 about Fall Out Boy's collaborations with hip-hop artists, from Kanye West to Lupe Fiasco to The Roots. These collaborations, unique tours, guest...
"They leaked it [the album] and it was really terrible quality, so we were like 'ok, let's leak it ourselves'. I think it makes sense - if people like the record then it'll help it, but you couldn't have done that 10 years ago. 10 years ago a leak was deadly for a record."
Fall Out Boy's new song "Favorite Record" is streaming in the replies. Looks like they're streaming everything today, so I'm going to put all the tracks in the replies to this thread. The band's new album comes out next week, and it's a good one.
The latest tracks to be released from Fall Out Boy's American Beauty / American Psycho, "Jet Pack Blues" and "Novocaine," can be streamed in the replies. It also looks like "Fourth Of July" will be streamed next. American Beauty / American Psycho drops next week.
I regret to inform our fans that I will not be performing with the band this week in London. This was not an easy decision to make on my end. In an effort to be fully transparent, I would like to explain why. In late-September of 2014 my mother started showing signs of a serious illness related to a condition she was treated for 30 years ago. After some tests my mother was diagnosed with what is known as a glioblastoma multiforme. A glioblastoma is the most aggressive type of brain tumor one can get, and with no hope of finding a cure.
"Real early on we decided that, regardless of who wrote what, we'd split everything four ways," says Patrick Stump. "There are records where I've done a whole song or Joe [Trohman] has written an entire music bed, but we all get the same credit. If there's four of us onstage, the four of us are receiving the same amount of credit, the same amount of money and the same amount of everything."
Many of their friends in other bands were shocked when they learned of the arrangement. "They were like, "Are you guys crazy?'" says Stump. 'You do all the writing!' And all those bands are broken up, every single one of them."
During the Save Rock and Roll tour, Fall Out Boy got Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco pretty wasted and had him tell the drunk history of the band. Head to the replies to watch the almost nine minute epic.

i remember hearing this daft punk “human after all” remix and later a rage against the machine one (killing in the name of, you should check this if you can- so good)…. i knew nothing of the creator at the time- sebastiAn- a french dj/producer on ed banger records… his music made me think and feel different like the way punk rock did when i first heard it. we began a correspondence through email…. my friend brian hiatt tweeted “the problem with modern rock is it isnt modern”- something i and we had been feeling in general. rock should not be relegated to a quaint little corner of guitar center for dads to find. in reaching...
